Reiki & Science

As Reiki grows in popularity, so new research is done to both prove and disprove the validity of energy therapies. Based solely off research gathered from the internet and books, not any clinical studies, the U.S. Catholic bishops issued a statement in 2009 that Reiki has a religious basis in Buddhism, that it's directed by human will, and it has no scientific foundation. William Lee Rand, the founder of the International Center for Reiki, has composed an article that clears up many rumors, misconceptions and false information about Reiki.

Here is an excert from his article, "A Response to the Bishops' Statement on Reiki":
"Ampere’s law indicates that when an electrical current flows through a conductor, an electromagnetic field is produced that reflects the nature of the current that created it. Tests with scientific instruments indicate that electromagnetic fields exist around the body and around each of the organs of the body, including the brain, heart, kidneys, liver, stomach, etc. The heart has the strongest field, which has been measured at a distance of 15 feet from the body.

The fields around each of the organs pulse at different frequencies and stay within a specific frequency range when they are healthy, but move out of this range when they are unhealthy. The hands of healers produce pulsing electromagnetic fields when they are in the process of healing, whereas the hands of non-healer do not produce these fields."

Who is a Reiki Student?

Reiki is a simple technique that anyone can learn. It is not limited to people of a certain age group, occupation or goals! Below is information from various students I have compiled to give you an idea of who decides to become a Reiki practitioner.

Age: All ages - my students have ranged from 20 to 70.

Occupation: All occupations - I've had students who are hospice caregivers, physical therapists, college students, retirees, mental health provider, a high priestess, registered nurse, hospital transporter, and more!

Why do you want to be attuned?: I've received a variety of answers from students. Some answers have included because a loved one did energy work, to focus on spiritual objectives, to heal self and others, add Reiki to psychic/intuitive readings, for improved focus and balance, to start a business, and for meditation/stress relief.

How do you plan on using Reiki?: Another variety of answers, including using Reiki as a complimentary therapy with physical therapy, for self and family, to refine personal energy flow, and helping hospice patients.

Religious preference?: Since Reiki is not a religion, people from all paths find it helps them connect with their own spirit. My students have had no religious preference, been agnostic, Baptist, Wiccan, "spirituality with a dash of Christianity", nondenominational, and Unitarian Universalist.

Prior Reiki Experience or Other Healing Modalities You Know?: Almost every student has had no prior Reiki experience, though a few have received Reiki treatments before. Other healing modalities have included Western medicine's use of vitamins, yoga for stress relief, potions, herbs, and general energy work. Most students come with no formal training in other ways to heal.

Students' Rave Reviews!

I know learning something new can be a little intimidating, especially if you don't have the opportunity to meet the teacher in person first. At the end of each class I ask my students to review the class and leave any criticsms and comments they have so I can continuously improve my classes. Read a few of the reviews they've left!

Pat R. "I appreciated Tiffany's knowledge, patience, courtesy and informal style while staying on track and on time. Would recommend."
Most positive experience in class: being treated with Reiki
Recommended improvements to make: reference page numbers in manual.
I have added page number references to help future classes follow along in the manual easier while I teach.
Thank you Pat!

Katherine W. "This class was great! It was wonderful to meet such great kindred spirits that I could speak openly to without judgement or fear of judgement. I wish it didn't have to end, but I am excited to spread the healing and joy of Reiki!"
Most positive experience in class: "Receiving Reiki and giving Reiki treatments. The attunements themselves were also very uplifting."
Recommended improvements to make: it'd be great to provide an overall outline of the class.
I have created and added an overall class outline.
Thank you Katherine!

Celeste F. "Just an overall lovely two days."

Aura Clearing

The aura is the energy field emitted by your body, also known as the bioenergy field. It normally extends 2"-4" all around your body, and is the point at which your energy goes out to the world around you and the energy of the people and places you are around comes into your body. The body's energy flow can be impeded by blockages in the aura. These blockages can either be the starting points of disease or an effect of disease, whether mental, emotional or physical. To cleanse your aura of these blocakges, I will use a technique called Aura Clearing. This is a technique developed by the International Center of Reiki Training in which I use a combination of breath and hand motions to pull the blockages out of your aura and release them with Reiki so they may not affect your or another again. Aura Clearing is very useful for releasing the blockages created by chronic pain, emotional distress, and mental stress.

Appointment Times
Monday - Thursday 1:00pm - 7:00pm
Aura Clearing can be done as its own session for $20
or included in a Reiki Session for an additional $10.

Smudging

Smudging is a technique adopted by many healers that is originally a Native American practice. Smudging is using the smoke from a burning roll of white sage to lift away sickness from a person. It is often used in cleansing ones spirit and aura. To smudge you, I will pass a smoking white sage smudge stick along the outline of your body while making sweeping motions with my other hand to sweep away illness and negativity. Homes, objects and places of business can also be smudged to remove any negative energy. Please see Home & Business Cleansing for more information.

Add smudging to any other service
for just an additional $5.
